Over 100 Employers with 1,000 Plus Jobs Connect with Veterans, Other Job Seekers at Fox Valley Career Expo in Oshkosh

One-of-a-kind recruiting event includes Virtual Career Expo, extending opportunity for participating employers, job seekers to connect online

APPLETON – Veterans and other job seekers connected today with over 100 employers ready to fill over 1,000 jobs during the Fox Valley Career Expo, a one-of-a-kind recruiting event the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) sponsored in Oshkosh at the Sunny View Expo Center.

“What’s happening at the Fox Valley Career Expo – job seekers connecting with employers who have good jobs available – is an example of what’s occurring across the state as Wisconsin’s economy continues to improve,” Secretary Reggie Newson said. “Since December 2010, Wisconsin has created over 100,000 private-sector jobs, and with the investments that Governor Walker has made in workforce development, employers will have the skilled workers they need to expand operations and create more jobs.”

Participating employers at the Fox Valley Career Expo ranged from small businesses to major corporations, including Kohler, Quad Graphics, Marinette Marine, Neenah Foundry, Alta Resources, Johnsonville Sausage, Schneider National and Time Warner Cable. From 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., veterans seeking employment connected with employers. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the expo was open to all pre-screened job seekers.

The special recruiting event was the first of its kind in the Fox Valley. Like other expos DWD has sponsored with its workforce partners, the event was limited to employers that had job openings to fill, and to job seekers who registered in advance and completed a pre-screening process. The Fox Valley event, however, is the first to also feature a Virtual Career Expo allowing registered participants to connect online through June 13.

“It is exciting to see the diversity of jobs and employers at the Career Expo,” said Debra Cronmiller, DWD Job Service Director for the Fox Valley District. “Job Seekers with virtually any set of skills should be able to identify an opportunity to join the workforce. In the Fox Valley, job fairs often are for a single company or sector.”

Cronmiller cited a wide variety of employment opportunities, from entry level jobs to skilled trade positions, such as welders and fabricators, to engineering, finance and human resource professionals with six figure salaries.

“It’s great to have over 100 companies in the room recruiting for virtually every sector, including manufacturing, food processing, healthcare, transportation, finance, and sales,” Cronmiller said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for employers to connect to the skills they need to make Wisconsin the workforce of choice!”
