Governor Scott Walker Delivers Remarks at 2014 Disabled American Veterans Convention
Signs Executive Order #137 on Hiring Veterans
Madison – Governor Scott Walker spoke at the 86th Annual Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Department of Wisconsin State Convention and signed Executive Order 137 creating the Wisconsin Veterans Employment Initiative.
“The hiring of qualified veterans, especially qualified veterans with a service-connected disability, should be codified as a priority of the State of Wisconsin. These veterans have served our country honorably and should be considered for state employment if they so choose,” said Governor Walker. “Veterans have the work ethic, commitment, teamwork skills, and leadership background, among other unique traits, which make them a valuable asset in state government.”
Executive Order #137 sets goals for hiring veterans and veterans with a service-connected disability rating. The Order also creates a Council on Veterans Employment to advise and assist in the effort to hire veterans and market state employment to veterans seeking employment.
At the conference, Governor Walker also highlighted a new state program offering employers incentives to hire veterans and disabled veterans. Read more here.
The Disabled American Veterans Department of Wisconsin advocated for this Executive Order and was instrumental in its completion. Governor Walker honored them at the event with a proclamation. The proclamation is attached.
