Alert to Wisconsin Employers: Notice of E-Mail Scam

If you receive an e-mail that claims to be sent on behalf of the New York or Wisconsin "Division of Unemployment Assistance" that requests information about a former employee, do not reply to the message and do not click the link in the message.

This appears to be an e-mail identity theft scam.

Neither the New York Department of Labor nor the state of Wisconsin's DWD Unemployment Insurance Division sent the e-mail. Neither office would request confidential information in this manner.

If you believe your identity has been compromised or stolen, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

You can also file a consumer protection complaint at Wisconsin's Office of Privacy Protection by downloading a form at, e-mailing the Office of Privacy Protection at, or by calling the Consumer Hotline at 1-800-422-7128.

Visit the Wisconsin Office of Privacy Protection at for additional resources on protecting the identity of your business and employees.
