Wisconsin operates 79 local Job Centers to assist you in finding employment and making career choices. All Job Centers have special staff to assist veterans. To qualify as a Veteran for Wisconsin Job Center services you must have:
- Served at least 180 days on active duty other than for Reserve or National Guard training
- Served less than 180 days but be medically discharged
- Been awarded a campaign badge or medal.

Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs The Department of Military Affairs provides an armed military force through the Wisconsin National Guard, which is organized, trained, equipped, and available for deployment under official orders in state and national emergencies. Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) Authority is a special authority by which agencies may appoint an eligible veteran without competition. The candidate does not have to be on a list of eligibles, but must meet the basic qualification requirements for the position. The VRA is a convenient method of appointment for both the agency and the veteran.
Veterans Preference Requirements By law, veterans who are disabled or who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during certain specified time periods or in military campaigns are entitled to preference over non-veterans both in hiring from competitive lists of eligibles and in retention during reductions in force.
