Do you want to be able to help yourself, family, community by conducting needs assessments (e.g. ACE); Gathering relevant data for Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drugs (ATOD) as prevention planning? A PS license identifies gaps, prioritizes needs based on the assessment of community conditions. Create strategies, best practices to meeting counseling needs of those around you. Develop an ATOD prevention plan based on trauma data, wellness, mindfulness, resilience to vulnerable populations (HIV-AIDS etc.) and family, couples and other support systems. This also includes disseminating information on biological effects of ATOD on the human body-basic physiology vs. environment. Student/trainee will be able to provide skills (Assertiveness, Communication, Stress-Anger Management, etc.) to key community leaders to ensure diverse representation in ATOD prevention activities.
