Mathematics Specialists are teacher leaders with additional preparation and background in mathematics instructional strategies, and school leadership. Typically based in elementary and middle schools, mathematics specialists are teachers who are released from full time classroom responsibilities so that they can support the professional growth of their colleagues, promoting enhanced mathematics instruction and student learning throughout their schools. Responsibilities often include strengthening classroom teachers’ understanding of mathematics content, and helping teachers develop more effective mathematics teaching practices that allow all students to reach high standards as well as sharing research addressing how students learn mathematics.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the course begins or enrollment capacity is reached. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure space is available before the start of their intended first semester.

Some or all of the 10 graduate certificate credits may be applied toward UW-Stout Polytechnic’s M.S. Education and M.S. Career and Technical Education degree programs, subject to the requirements of the selected degree.
$90 fee for the required Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics (5733) examination, paid directly to the testing organization.
Tuition refunds are prorated based on the course length and timing of withdrawal requests. Students who withdraw after a course begins may be subject to administrative fees and partial tuition charges.
