Become a Reading Teacher. You can enhance your skills in providing support and interventions for striving readers. You’ll become a leader in reading education in your school or district with focused competencies using reading assessments and instructional strategies.
Applicants must provide official transcripts, proof of a current teaching license, a written statement addressing their philosophy of education and professional goals, and documentation of a current background check. Those seeking the Wisconsin DPI Reading Teacher License #1316 must hold or become eligible to hold a Wisconsin teaching license.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the course begins or enrollment capacity is reached. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure space is available before the start of their intended first semester.

All 18 graduate credits earned through this certificate may be applied toward the M.S. in Education or M.S. in Career and Technical Education at UW-Stout Polytechnic.
The certificate also provides approved coursework and clinical preparation leading toward the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Reading Teacher License #1316. Licensure requires successful program completion, institutional endorsement, eligibility for a Wisconsin teaching license, and two years of successful regular classroom teaching experience. The experience may be completed before, during, or after the certificate coursework and may be earned outside Wisconsin, but it must be documented before DPI may issue the license. Certificate completion does not itself confer licensure.
Tuition refunds are prorated based on the course length and timing of withdrawal requests. Students who withdraw after a course begins may be subject to administrative fees and partial tuition charges.
