Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) assist veterans navigating their job search. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. Local Veteran Employment Representatives (LVER) conduct targeted outreach to employers in the state to assist veterans in gaining employment, including conducting seminars for employers and, in conjunction with employers, conducting job search workshops and establishing job search groups; and facilitate employment, training, and placement services furnished to veterans.
Veteran Outreach Spotlight
The Office of Veteran Employment Services' staff works tirelessly to provide our veterans with the tools and opportunities to find meaningfuly employment. For their efforts we'd like to shine a spotlight on those staff members for the great work.
LVERs Erin Rice and Alene Helmer attended the SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) conference at Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells as a vendor to network with HR professionals, build relationships, and discuss strategies for veteran hiring.
They provided a whiteboard asking attendees to write down the biggest hiring challenges they were facing. LVERs problem-solved with employers, highlighting the skills and experience veterans bring to the workforce, and explored partnerships to improve job placement for veterans. These connections are vital in expanding employment opportunities and increasing awareness of veteran talent within various industries.
